Using an Agent

Licensed insurance agents can be a helpful starting point when shopping for insurance. Some agents represent a specific company or company group. Other agents, called independent agents, represent several companies. Contacting independent agents can provide information from multiple companies with a single phone call. Agents also can answer questions about coverages and can help you tailor a comprehensive health plan with the specific benefits you need.

Agents must be licensed to legally sell insurance in Texas. Make sure that any agent you do business with is licensed. You can verify an agent´s license status by using the Agent Lookup feature on the TDI website or by calling the TDI Consumer Help Line at 1-800-252-3439.
